Venous (Doppler) Ultrasound

Venous ultrasound provides pictures of the veins throughout the body.

Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions involving the veins of the body, most commonly the veins of the legs.

Doppler ultrasound may be performed as part of a venous ultrasound examination.

Doppler Ultrasound is a special ultrasound technique that evaluates movement in the body. Specifically, it allows the doctor to see and evaluate blood flow through arteries and veins in the body.

With this test your physician can diagnose:

  • blood clots,
  • valves of the veins that aren’t functioning properly thus causing “venous reflux”,
  • narrowed or closed veins.

These conditions can cause swelling, pain, discoloration of the legs and arms and may cause a pulmonary embolism (clot in the lung or arteries).

How do I get started?

Contact San Tan Cardiovascular Center today to make an appointment with one of our healthcare providers.

At this appointment:

  • we will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms and perform a non-invasive, diagnostic test to further determine your medical condition,
  • any pertinent testing that needs to be done beforehand will also be ordered at this time.

Our billing department will then contact your health insurance company to obtain prior authorization.  Upon receiving insurance authorization, the test will be scheduled.
